Conall was officially labelled as a severe autumn storm on Wednesday. There were very heavy gusts of wind. Traffic and buildings had a hard time due to fallen trees and broken branches.
General director Richard Weurding of the Dutch Association of Insurers: "We see damage all over the country and unfortunately a young woman on a bicycle has also died in Lochem. Cars and roofs have been damaged by the strong storm wind. An initial estimate based on historical data shows an estimate of around 40 million euros. In the spring of 2025, we will be able to show a more accurate amount based on the claims submitted. We also do this every year in our Climate Damage Monitor. Together with the KNMI , we are committed to prevention. In order to limit casualties and damage as much as possible, it is important that a weather warning reaches the right people as quickly and effectively as possible."
The Climate Damage Monitor shows damage caused by extreme weather, including storms, from 2007 to 2023. In the year 2022, the February storms stood out, there was more than 800 million in storm damage in that year. Last year, summer storm hit Poly Nederland, resulting in a damage burden of more than 60 million.
