In the Netherlands, insurers use the European eHerkenning as a login method. But from 1 July 2025, it will no longer be possible to use only a username and password to log in.
In addition to the username and password, insurers must carry out an additional verification step, for example via a code by SMS or via an authentication app. Since the beginning of this year, it is no longer possible for new customers to log in with only one username and password. Logging in without two-factor authentication is still possible at companies and institutions that have been using eHerkenning for some time, but from 1 July 2025, two-step verification will be mandatory for all users.
