Due to climate change, extreme precipitation is more common. In the past hundred years, the number of showers in which more than 30 millimeters of rain falls has doubled. These showers often fall in the summer and most often in the coastal areas. Extreme precipitation can cause damage from leaking roofs and flooding on the street.

Private

Dwelling

Assured:

Most private home insurance policies cover:

  • Damage due to precipitation entering the house through roofs and gutters, including consequential damage due to the failure of facilities such as electricity.
  • Damage from precipitation that flows over thresholds into the house, basement or basement.
  • Damage due to the collapse of a flat roof, damage to the roof, or to the contents.
  • There are sometimes additional conditions.

Not insured:

  • Damage to roofs and gutters.
  • Damage from precipitation entering the home through open windows and doors.
  • Damage from precipitation that flows through open entrances into the house, basement or basement.
  • Damage due to a rise in the groundwater level.
  • Damage due to the collapse of a flat roof if the building decree is not complied with (sufficient slope, good drainage, good supporting structure).
  • Damage due to poor maintenance.

Car

Insured, provided that there is a hull or all-risk insurance:

  • Damage to the car during a collision due to heavy rain.
  • Damage by water if the street is blank.
  • No influence on bonus/malus scheme.

Businesslike

  • Damage from precipitation entering the property through roofs and gutters, including consequential damage from the failure of facilities such as electricity.
  • Damage caused by precipitation that flows over thresholds into the building, basement, basement or parking garage.
  • Damage due to the collapse of a flat roof, damage to the roof and gutters, to the inventory and goods.

Sometimes not insured:

  • Please note: there are sometimes additional conditions and the definition of precipitation may differ per business policy. Sometimes overflowing banks fall under 'flooding'.

Not insured:

  • Damage caused by precipitation that flows through open entrances into the building, the basement, the basement or the parking garage.
  • Damage due to the collapse of a flat roof if the building decree is not complied with (sufficient slope, good drainage, good supporting structure).
  • Damage due to poor maintenance.
  • Damage due to a rise in the groundwater level.
  • Damage to crops and the like (there are other insurances for that).

Company car

  • Damage to vehicles during a collision due to heavy rain.
  • Damage by water if the street is blank.
